Daily Training Tip # 88

A good diet starts with a healthy breakfast.

Most athletes are concerned with what they put in their bodies. They seem to be doing the right things leading up to and after workouts, practices and games, however they forget about the first meal of the day. Breakfast helps start everything off properly.

What you do during your recovery period is just as important as what you do during your workout. Make sure your recovery periods are purposeful.

Hard Work is Starting to Pay Off!

We would like to congratulate the Brainerd High School Girl's Varsity goalie Kerria Howard on being named Athlete of the Week.

http://www.brainerddispatch.com/stories/021810/spo_20100218008.shtml

Kerria figured out what hard work actually is. She has paid one heck of a price both on and off the ice this past year. Way to go Kerria-Keep up the good work!!

Team USA

Found a great website this morning where you can follow all the Olympic action. teamusanews.org

Once again, we would like to wish all of Team USA the best of luck in Vancouver!

Daily Training Tip #84

Keep performing olympic lifts in your workout routine. These build both strength and power.

Make sure you are completing these properly. If you are not, you need to get the proper help. These lifts are very beneficial to your developement, but they need to performed correctly. Look for a certified lifting coach to help you perform them.

Daily Training Tip # 83

Balance training can't be overlooked. Perform exercises that incorporate balance on a daily basis.

There are hundreds of small things you can perform during your workouts to incorporate balance; use one leg, use swiss balls, use bosu balls, use balance boards etc. Have fun with this.

We would like to congrats Team USA for getting off to a fast start. MHC Campers David Backes and Ryan Malone scored the 2nd and 3rd goals yesterday in a 3-1 win! Way to go boys!

Daily Training Tip #82

If you train like an Olympian, you will play like an Olympian.

Watch the video clips of some of these Olympian Athletes training. These athletes pay a price that is second to none for four (4) years with only one time to prove their worth. These athletes understand what hard work is. You need to figure that out and start working as soon as possible.

I would like to wish USA Olympians Ryan Malone, Paul Stastny and David Backes the best of luck as the USA Hockey team starts competition this afternoon. I know these three have paid one heck of a price to prepare and develop themselves to be in this position.

Daily Training Tip #81

As playoffs grow closer, your off-ice training needs to be more specific and more concise.

Your main focus at this time of the season is your on-ice performance. Training is still important, however games take priority.

Daily Training Tip #80

This time of the season every single workout counts, just like every single game counts in the standings. Don't let today go to waste.

There is no such thing as a day off. Every single day there is something you can do to improve your game. Can't afford to miss one.

Daily Training Tip #79

Continue to eat the proper foods, to put the proper fuel in your body.

You body is like a finely tuned, high performance race car. You can't but soda pop in the gas tank of your race car and expect to win the Indy 500. Your body is the same thing. It is a finely tuned, high performance athletic machine. You need to put in the proper fuel all the time!

Daily Training Tip #76

Train outside of the box. The game of hockey is played outside of a box, so does your training.

Although, squatting is a great exercise and very important to do, make sure the majority of your training is outside of the squat rack. Think outside of the box!

Training needs to be a habit. It needs to be a way of life.

Not just something we do part time, but sometime we do all the time.

Daily Training Tip # 74

The more your training resembles the movements you do on the ice, the better your training transfers to competition.

Think about this everytime you enter the gym. Make sure your exercises in the gym mimic those movements you do on the ice. Your goal in the gym is to make youself a better athlete, more specifically a better hockey player. Let's train for this!

Daily Training Tip #73

If you don't have one, either build or purchase a stride box (russian box). This mimics your skating stride and helps build explosive power.

Once you have one, make sure you use it. It can be used on a daily basis. This is not a gimic. If used, it does work. You can view our video and see some of our pros using the stride box.

Daily Training Tip # 72

Make today a single leg day. Do single leg lifts and single leg jumps.

Think outside of the box when you are in the gym. Hockey is a game that is played outside of the box, so you training needs to mimic this. 80% of the time a player is on one leg, so our training needs to mimic this as well.

Daily Training Tip # 71

Don't forget about the little things. In the gym...Back/Wrists/Calves. Out of the gym...Nutrition/Sleep.

A lot of little things add up to some pretty special big things. In everything you do, never forget about the little things.
